After-School Program for Youth Begins in January!

A new program for youth from 4th grade – college age, both within our congregation and from the community (invite your friends!!!) will begin on Thursday, January 17, 2007, and be available each Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm. (Feel free to stop in for a short time or the whole time). We will meet in the ALC Fellowship Hall, and the program is free!

What we envision this program to be:

A safe place for children to study and socialize with each other.
A space and time available for homework help from peers and computer research for homework and reports.
Possible time for clubs to meet. Example of possible clubs: book club, knitting, etc.

You won’t want to miss our first few meetings as we will be determining a name for ourselves and our student code of conduct. Come and give input into YOUR program!! A light snack will be available each Thursday (drinks and popcorn, goldfish, etc.).

For the Parents:

Our congregation has supported this program through prayer and the purchase of three laptop computers, software, and a printer. THANK YOU!! If you are interested in supporting this program in additional ways, please inquire. We are looking for snack volunteers, internet sponsors, purchasers of board games and video games, etc.
Supervision provided by one or more volunteer adult members of our congregation.
Each child will need to have a permission form and student code of conduct on file to participate. These forms will be compiled with children and will include computer usage guidelines, expectations of behavior, etc, reasons for dismissal, and peer tutoring guidelines. They will be reviewed within the first month of meeting. These forms will be required for admittance by the second month of the program.
ALC and adult leaders reserve the right to monitor and/or block internet usage for any reason.
