We believe that we are each called to serve. ALC provides opportunities to discover your unique gifts and use them to enrich the lives and faith of others, thus making a difference in the community.
Below is a list of ongoing service opportunities available at ALC. (Opportunities to serve In Our Community and In Our World can be found on their respective pages.) Whether you are a member of the ALC faith community or a guest, you are invited to participate in many of the below ministries. If you are interested in participating or have questions about various ministries, please give the contact person a call (or email). We’d love to have you join us as we Serve God and all people in the model of Jesus Christ.
Warmly greet morning worshipers from entrances and in large gathering spaces.
Welcome and provide information to people visiting the Information Center before and after 8:45 and 10:05 a.m. worship services
Assist in the nursery caring for children newborn through 3 years during worship, weekdays, or weeknights as needed
Choose to provide visitors with a Welcome Folder, assist with New Member sponsorship program, New Member welcome reception, or New Member integration into our community of faith
Seat worshipers, distribute bulletins, collect offering, lead worshipers to communion stations, and help to provide a meaningful, effective, distraction-free worship experience.
Read assigned Scripture readings for Sunday worship at either the 8:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. service times.
Serve bread and wine to worshipers as a part of the Communion celebration during morning worship.
Prepare the Sanctuary with all necessary elements and accessories to enable meaningful worship services, including communion elements, paraments, etc.
Assist in providing a meaningful creative space for worship and fellowship through the use of banners, decorative elements, and seasonal decor.
Provide/assist with faith learning for children 3 years through 5th grade, September through May.
Provide/assist with VBS learning, craft, music, or food preparation for children preschool through 5th grade. 1 week during the summer.
Assist with activities, crafts, and Bible study for this Sunday night program which meets the 2nd Sunday of the month at 4:00 p.m.
Prepare and serve a family-friendly dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday evening before the start of the Connections program. Team up with another family to provide a meal for about 30 kids and volunteers as they fellowship together before their Connections meeting.
Aassist with Middle School programming, including fellowship activities and supervision on Sunday nights
Lead a small group discussion (4-6 kids) on the topic presented by the Confirmation program leaders, Sunday evenings from 6:45-7:30 p.m.
Assist with high school programming, which may include assisting with education, fellowship or service activities and retreats
Assist with mowing and light landscaping on the church property on a rotating basis (about once every two months)
Assist the kitchen coordinator with table setting, food preparation, and clean up after special events, funerals, Lenten Soup Suppers, etc.
With a team of individuals, assemble the Seeds of Grace newsletter on a monthly basis and bulletins on Friday mornings every week
Invite people into various ministries by phone from the comfort of your home
Count and deposit the Sunday offering money on a rotating basis (two Sundays in a row about 4 times per year)
If you have flexibility in your schedule and are able at times to say “yes” to an opportunity to serve at the last minute, we’d like to invite you to join a growing list of people who can be contacted via email about service opportunities that “pop up.” Most of these opportunities are short in duration and one-time events.
